The MongKhong Shwedu is located in close proximity to the Kothaung Paya in Mrauk U, Myanmar

As we were driving around Mrauk U,  we came across the Mong Khong Shwedu, near the Kothaung Temple (Paya). I searched Google and could not find any information on this lovely Paya, but will update as information comes in. We stayed about 20 minutes. It has a stupa and the Buddhist temple, both feel deserted.

I find it fascinating to come across amazing temples like this, no other tourists in site, and explore on your own. There are many in this area and virtually no tourists; however, not much information about some of these temples either.

After days, weeks and months of being on the road it helps you stay (somewhat) organized. I actually take two shots: one with the structure in the background (as shown in this image) and then a close up of the name (in this case a stone marker) so I can read the name.

On my travels, especially at stunning temples like this one, I use two cameras. Yes, TWO cameras: one has a wide-angle lens to show an overview of the structure and the other a zoom, for closer in details. It would be extremely difficult and time-consuming to be changing lenses that often and quickly, not to mention getting your image sensor extremely dirty due to all the dust in this area! Having two point-of-views gives a good mix of the overall structure and closer in details that are important.

As you can see, the MongKhong Shwedu is not completely maintianed. In a way it’s charming to see a temple like this in it’s natural state, and on the other hand the foliage growing out of it will end up destroying it.- Mrauk U, Myanmar

Here are some VERY useful items I used on the road; the Myanmar guidebook was indispensable as there was no reliable internet thoroughout our three weeks there.
